Trip number 11, how much does it cost to spend 2 weeks off site?! Day 5 HS and Epcot

Thursday 11th – steps 20183

Today we were having our Star Wars breakfast at the Sci Fi restaurant. We were up at 7 and arrived at Hollywood Studios at around 8.50.

It was quite busy getting into the park and it took us about 10 mins to get through. We had some time before our reservation so we decided to have a ride on Star Tours first, there was no wait and we saw a sequence that we hadn’t seen before.

We headed over to breakfast and had our photo taken with Darth Vader and Boba Fett, Darth was really intimidating!

We were seated in our car and had a little bit of a wait before our drinks arrived. Our pastries arrived and they were ok, not amazing. I ordered the Vader waffle and Rob had sausage, bacon and eggs. I quite enjoyed mine but Rob thought his could have been better.

We did have some brilliant character interactions during our meal; I had brought along a pin to trade with the jawas – initially I got a light up mermaid hair accessory but later rob traded it again and I ended up with some beads!

Slightly annoyingly we missed Greedo on the way around and so we asked if we could get a photo before we left; our server said that this was fine but the character handler was very reluctant – it seemed she thought we had somehow sneaked in and were trying to get photos without actually eating.

That was odd but we did eventually get our photo, overall the experience was worth the cost as it saved waiting for the characters in the heat but I wouldn’t go just for the food.

After breakfast we headed to Epcot by boat as we were planning on spending the next day at Hollywood Studios. We arrived at around 1130 and headed to Nemo, we waited around 15 minutes I think.

Then we headed into The Land and the Circle of Life show was just starting – we found this to be an odd experience as Disney the massive corporation told us how we all need to be more environmentally aware! We then had a little float around Living with the Land.

We used our first FP at Spaceship Earth, which at this point in the day had about a 30 min wait so it felt less of a waste! We then moved on to Mission Space for our 2nd FP, we are sure that this ride is less intense than it used to be!

We had some time until our next FP so we did Ellen's energy show, I thought it was quite funny that they kept reminding you that it would take 45 minutes…! I had low expectations for this attraction as lots of people say it’s a waste of time.

It was mega hot though so we were pleased for an opportunity to cool down. At the beginning I was quite impressed, especially with the dinosaurs. Unfortunately though the dinosaurs were the high point…it was almost as if they spent the whole budget on the dinosaurs and then had to finish it off with screens instead!

We used our final FP at Test Track – no photo though as for some reason our magicbands didn’t pick it up. I meant to send an email to track it down but forgot…! From this point on we did scan our bands on each ride (even though you shouldn’t need to), this meant some pictures appeared twice but better than missing it.

We were finished with rides today and so we headed over to the World Showcase. We started with Mexico and had a fun little boat ride as normal, I had been wanting a photo with Mexican Donald for ages so today we decided to wait for him. We actually had a fairly short wait, although he did take a quick break just before he got to us.

We walked the rest of the WS and took the boat back across to Hollywood Studios to collect the car.

We went back to the hotel for a little rest before dinner, we decided to head to an Outback this evening. We both had flat iron steaks with fries and couldn’t manage desserts.

We stopped at Walmart on the way back to the hotel to pick up some bottled water and some Sunny Delight for Rob….he had to have the giant bottle that only just fit in the hotel fridge! Amazingly they had chip and pin at Walmart which was unexpected!

Costs:

Parking $17
Water and juice Walmart $12.64 (PIN verified)
Sci-fi breakfast $124.48
2 x soda $6.50
2 drinks $5.94
Outback dinner $50.54

Trip number 11, how much does it cost to spend 2 weeks off site?! Days 3 & 4

Day 3 is quite short so I've decided to post days 3 and 4 together

Tuesday 9th – steps 10655

Today we again got up around 9, I had pre booked FP at Hollywood Studios but we decided to skip then and instead go shopping.

I booked a few FP at the Magic Kingdom for the evening just in case, I think I managed to pick up a Wishes FP in my selection.

So we headed to the Premium Outlets on Vineland Road and did shopping from 11 - 5. We had a few things that we wanted to get – including some new work clothes for Rob.

We got lunch in the food court, we both had burgers and it cost us around $20. We also got ourselves some Godiva soft serve ice cream in the afternoon which cost us $10.

After our shopping exploits we headed back to the hotel for a rest before going in search of dinner.

We decided to try an Olive Garden and we had a nice meal. I think we both had salad and breadsticks then I had ravioli and Rob had something similar to a carbonara.

We finished off with 3 mini desserts which were yummy, cost us $51 with tip.

We headed over towards the Magic Kingdom but as we got closer it started to rain and on checking the forecast it was going to stick around.

The rain got heavier and so we abandoned our plan to hit a few rides and watch the fireworks.

Costs:
Lunch $19.79
Ice cream $9.63
Dinner at Olive Garden $51
Coffee $5.27

Shopping:

Banana Republic $42.58
US Polo Assn £34.06
Character warehouse $15.93
Under Armour $21.29
DKNY $297.58

Wednesday 10th – steps 12239

Not sure how early we were up today, but based on the trend for this trip I would guess not early!

Today we were going back to the Magic Kingdom and we arrived at around 11. We started off with a FP for Jungle Cruise which is always a fun ride, the jokes are old but that is part of the attraction.

We had lunch booked at The Plaza for 12 and I had a surprise for Rob. It was his birthday in a couple of days and so I had ordered him a special cake.

As I checked us in for our lunch I asked the host if they could let our server know that it was a surprise and not to say anything during the meal. Unfortunately this caused much confusion for the host which lead to Rob growing suspicious (and he remained that way throughout the meal).

We both had sandwiches and then instead of dessert our server brought out the cake and announced Rob’s birthday to the restaurant and got them to sing Happy Birthday! Rob was not keen on the singing…!

The cake was brilliant though and turned out just as I had hoped – my request was for a mini cake to “look like Mickey”

After lunch we had some time until our next FP so we went to Storybook Circus and decided to ride Dumbo, oddly though they made us wait for a few minutes in the play area – which was just weird!

We went back across to Tomorrowland as our next FP was Space Mountain, we still had spare time though so hopped on the People mover.

Once we got off it started to rain heavily, we sheltered for a little then decided to take another trip around on the People mover – we were mostly dry but did encounter a couple of waterfalls on the way around.

We got off and decided to abandon Space Mountain and head instead to Buzz Lightyear and get in the standby queue as it was closer and inside!

Somehow I scored slightly higher than Rob (he now says he let me win), and when we got out it was still raining so we decided to head back to the hotel.

We did a little bit of shopping on the way out, Rob got a couple of new polo shirts and I got my 2015 castle pin for my collection.

Back at the hotel we watched some TV for a while as it continued to rain outside.

At around 7 we drove back across as it seemed to be clearing up, but when we got back to the TTC it started raining even heavier again. We waited in the car for about half an hour before giving up and heading home.

We got some takeaway pizza near the hotel and had dinner in the room.

Costs:

Parking $17
Plaza lunch (inc cake) $84.07
Polo shirts and pin $67.05
Pizza $18

Trip number 11, how much does it cost to spend 2 weeks off site?! Day 2 - Animal Kingdom

Monday 8th – steps 16326

This morning we got up around 9ish but we took our time getting ready and got an early lunch at hotel in the quick serve place. They were massive and again I forgot to take pictures! We could easily have shared one so we learned a lesson there!

I had pre booked some fast passes at the Animal Kingdom so we headed over. We had a little time until our first fast pass so we watched It’s Tough to be a Bug! It’s a cute show, although I’m not a fan of the end!

We then headed to Dinoland as our first FP was for Dinosaur, but as we were still early we got ourselves some ice cream sundaes at Dino Bite snacks. These were much better than yesterday (although not soft serve ice cream)!

We then rode Dinosaur before speed walking to Flights of Wonder so that we could catch the next show. We found seats near the front rather unexpectedly, we’ve seen this show quite a few times now and our regular “guano Joe” had put on some weight since the last time we saw him!

Next up we had a FP for Expedition Everest which was a short walk away, we had a great ride as always!

I then wanted to watch Finding Nemo as it would provide an opportunity to cool down and I enjoy the movie  We got ourselves some bottled drinks and got in the line, a few minutes later and we were in!

We headed over towards the safari for our last FP and stopped in a few shops along the way. Rob had been looking at a hat for several trips and went in and tried it on again…this time he bought it!

Our safari was good as always, they seemed to be doing some work on part of the savannah. We did actually see a lion today, although I’m not sure that I got a good photo!

We went back to the hotel for a shower and change before we went to dinner at Sanaa. This is one of our favourite restaurants in Disney and we had made two reservations for our trip.

We started as always with the bread service which was fab as always but we were a little surprised when our main courses arrived whilst we were still working on the bread!

Rob had ordered the butter chicken and the spicy lamb with basmati rice and I had the tandoori chicken. Both were lovely but we did feel a little rushed, also we had a table next to us where some parents were allowing their child to listen to loud music on a tablet (without headphones!)

After our mains we ordered dessert; the trio for Rob and chocolate mousse for me.

For some reason our server decided to bring the bill before we were ready, I wanted a coffee so it had to be adjusted. We get a DVC discount here so for our meal with tip we paid $97.

We enjoyed our meal tonight, the food was as good as always but it was just a little rushed tonight.

Costs:

Parking $17
2 x sandwiches at hotel $26.03
2 x ice cream sundae and bottled water $13.81
2 x drinks $6.37
Hat $47.88
Sanaa dinner $96.90

Trip number 11, how much does it cost to spend 2 weeks off site?! Day 1 (Magic Kingdom)

Sunday 7th – steps 21024

As expected we were later waking up than normal – we woke up around 8 and would not have been ready in time to get to our breakfast reservation (glad I cancelled last night).

We unpacked all of our stuff and called home quickly to let them know we had arrived safely. We decided to try one of the restaurants in the hotel (we were staying at Rosen Shingle Creek). There was a buffet breakfast or you could order from the menu. I had a breakfast sandwich which was massive (and I ate just over half) and Rob had an omelette and toast – for some reason I didn’t take any photos.

Before going to our first park we thought we would go back to the airport to swap our car. The mustang was not good and as I was planning on trying to do some driving this trip we really wanted an SUV. We got to the airport and explained and they told us to pick a car from the correct row. There were about 4 choices this morning…! We selected a white Jeep Compass which had around 9000 miles on the clock, so not too bad. Paperwork amended and we were off on our way again.

Today we were going to the Magic Kingdom for no reason other than it was the last day that Pirates of the Caribbean was open before its planned refurbishment and it wouldn’t reopen for our September trip either.

I had prebooked our FP+ and our first ride was Splash Mountain, now it was already quite warm and so we were quite happy to be riding a water ride

We had a little bit of time before our next FP so we got ourselves some frozen lemonade and took a seat near the shooting arcade to drink them. We then used our FP to ride Pirates, we actually got stuck for about 10 minutes just before the first drop which was odd. The ride was good though.

Our last FP for the day was Haunted Mansion but as we had rode Pirates at the start of the time we decided to head to Tomorrowland and the Carousel of Progress followed by the Peoplemover (2 classic attractions!) We also felt the need to get some ice cream sundaes whilst we were there (although the soft serve ice cream wasn’t the best we have tried).

It was now time for the Haunted Mansion – I love this ride, it’s just a shame that it seems to have a much longer average wait now that FP+ has been introduced.

We had decided not to spend all day in the park so we finished up and walked back up Main Street. Now, every time we have been before I’ve wanted a balloon and this time I was determined to get one. So, we found a balloon seller and I got myself a purple Mickey balloon

We took the monorail back to the parking lot and got a drink at the shop as it was really warm. We drank it on the walk back to the car!

On the way back to the hotel we stopped to get some drinks and crisps for the room. We got a 12 pack of drinks each (Mountain Dew for Rob, Diet Coke with Cherry for Me) and a large bag of crisps each. It always puzzles us why they don’t have as many multipacks of crisps and why they seem to prefer the giant bags….!

We had a little rest in the room and got reacquainted with the latest shows on Home & Garden channel…..Rob loves the home improvement shows and I just dread what plans he will come up with for our house after watching. (His latest idea is that we should take down the wall between our living room and conservatory….because that won’t cost a lot at all!)

As we had missed our first night traditional dinner at Earl of Sandwich we decided to rectify that with a trip to Downtown Disney for the evening. There was quite a long line and I think we waited about 15 minutes to order but it was worth it…..my sandwich was soooo good!

We took a wander around some of the shops before heading back to the hotel for the night.

Costs:
Parking $17
2 x frozen lemonade $8.50
2 x Ice cream and bottled water $12.96
Balloon $12
Orange vitamin water $3.83
Soda and crisps for room $15
Earl of sandwich approx. $22
