This Year's Boxing Day Bargain is San Diego! Travel Day (Boxing Day)

Today we were awake at about 8am, and I did a quick workout in the room (5 mins of core, 10 mins of low impact cardio) before getting ready – I was trying to achieve 20,000 minutes using peloton for 2024.

We dropped off our travel clothes in the car and then went back to check out before taking the pods across to T5, they had a very brief technical issue (like 2 mins) and then we were into our pod and on our way.

We found that the access gate was open and so we didn’t have to pay the £8 per person charge – I’m taking this as a xmas gift from the hotel/pods.

We took the lifts and headed into the terminal where we had to go to full check in as our documents needed checking. As we have reached ‘bronze’ we used the club check-in which moved quite quickly.

Security had a short line but was not too bad, Rob had his shoes scanned and his bag got stopped for a random security check. I amazingly was through with no extra checks

We got breakfast at Giraffe which was busy and we had to join a line but it didn’t take too long.

I had Nutella and banana pancakes while Rob had the full English with warm bread (it could not be described as toast). I had a mocha and I think Rob had tea, our bill was about £40 which is expensive but pretty typical for an airport.

We popped to boots for some deodorant because we’d forgotten to buy it at the weekend, buying it inside the airport of course meant we weren’t limited to small travel sizes.

We took the shuttle over to gate B46 where we boarded pretty much on time.

We did have a minor delay as some cargo equipment was apparently blocking us in but that was resolved quickly.

When we departed the Captain announced that we were due to arrive at about 4pm which would be on time.

Despite the many criticisms I see online about BA our last few flights have been perfectly on time (ever since our delayed flight home from Tampa in 2023).

We started with pretzels and drink, quickly followed by lunch which was Christmas dinner or gnocchi (which it appeared most people didn’t know what that was.) We both had the Christmas dinner and it was actually quite reasonable for economy food.

I had the ‘immediate recliner’ in front of me, but luckily the cabin crew (a lovely lady called Eloise) asked her to move her seat forward so that I could eat.

I played some games (angry birds mainly) for a while then watched Fly me to the Moon followed by Jungle Cruise. I quite enjoyed both, obviously Jungle Cruise is a favourite.

We had some light turbulence at about the halfway mark but otherwise we had a fairly smooth flight.

We had a second meal was chicken tikka or mushroom rigatoni, we had one each (Rob the tikka, me the pasta), it was a bit rushed though and when we had unexpected turbulence at about 40 mins out the cabin crew were behind.

When they were told to sit down for safety they seemed concerned as they hadn’t completed all of their tasks – we were right at the back so could hear their conversations. They did get released though and I think got everything done.

We landed about 5 mins late, so on time again and our baggage was reasonably quick (we were held on the aircraft for a few mins due to some cargo unloading).

Rob and I were through immigration super fast, no passport needed again - just a photo on the machine and an immigration officer who was stood to the side asked if we had anything to declare. We didn’t, and he said gave a good day!

The other two took a few more minutes so we worked out where to get an uber while we waited. They arrived and we booked an uberXL which took about 8 mins to arrive. The cost was £35 inc tip.

We arrived at the Town and Country resort, checked in and went to our room – which was a junior suite.

Ours was fab but the others had an issue, they were eventually moved to a different room which they were happier with.

We picked up some drinks then went to bed as it was now quite late according to our body clocks. Rob was asleep just after 7 whereas I managed to stay awake until 8.
