2 weeks with the family... are we crazy?! Pre-travel day

28th Sept

Our morning started at about 7am and in exciting fashion as I put some washing on!

We had some breakfast and did a variety of exciting jobs around the house before taking the dog to the kennels – although we had to turn around and go back home as I had left his vaccination record behind.

Once we had dropped him off we came home did more washing and ironing and finally started the packing. The rest of the group were taking a taxi to the airport and were taking our luggage with them so we didn’t have to deal with it on the train. A taxi for all 9 of us was far more expensive than a taxi for 7 and the 2 of us going on the train

So, at about 1.30 we took our luggage to Mum and Dads and then headed home to do the last few jobs – which included getting some food for the fish in the pond! I think we also mowed the lawn and finally mopped the floors!

We left our house with our hand luggage and caught the 1552 train heading towards London. This train wasn’t too bad and there was for once some space in the luggage rack. We arrived at Clapham Junction at around 1730 and managed to get a train 4 mins later to Gatwick. This one was packed - glad we didn’t have all of our luggage!

I think we arrived at Gatwick at around 1800 and headed to the Hampton where we checked in and got the key for all 3 rooms (we had booked them using our Hilton points).

We dropped our bags in the room and then went to get some food (we weren’t expecting the rest to arrive for a little while) at the Nicholas Culpepper. We both had burgers which were quite good but I forgot to take photos.

We kept track of the rest using ‘find my friends’ and headed over to meet them when they arrived. We helped them to their rooms with their bags and then went with them to get snacks for the children.

We got some free snacks at the hotel (part of the Hilton Honors benefits) and then headed off to bed.
