2 weeks with the family... are we crazy?! Travel Day

29th Sept

This morning we woke up around 0700 again, we were expecting a message from the rest but didn’t get anything until 0730 when they were apparently ready! We weren’t so we said we would join them at breakfast.

We joined them downstairs at 0750. I had coffee and toast, the coffee wasn’t brilliant unfortunately. We all went to sort out our bags and agreed to leave the hotel at 0830.

We took the monorail across to South terminal and set off towards Thomas Cook check in. The Premium queue was short (there was no one before us) and so we got rid of our bags quickly.

We had paid for Premium Security (cost £7 on an offer) so headed through quickly. Rob’s mum had been very worried about this bit as she has a pacemaker and was anxious about going through the scanner – she needn’t have worried as they sent her around it and screened her separately.

We arrived on the other side with loads of time so we found some seats and got settled and various groups went off at various times to look in the shops etc.

As we didn’t eat much at breakfast Rob and I got something. I had a cookie and a flat white while Rob got some kind of ham and cheese thing, both were quite good.

We gave the children their pressies and got Blake a hat and Charlie a little wallet as Leona had a pair of ears and I hadn’t been able to find anything for the boys.

The flight was delayed slightly but finally the gate appeared on the board, we left literally as soon as it changed and yet when we got there they were already boarding. We missed the Premium slot and had to join the really big line

Overall the flight was reasonably good, although the cabin manager was a bit rubbish. The food was probably better than most options although I can’t remember what we had and I forgot photos! The seats were quite comfortable and the entertainment choices seemed to keep most of the group occupied.

Arriving in Orlando immigration was rubbish as always - took over an hour and that was only because we got shuffled down to the US end after we had waited about 45 minutes. Annoyingly the bags took even longer and then we had quite a long wait to get the hire car – we upgraded to a suburban to give us a little bit more flexibility (although with hindsight we should have got a mini bus).

Once we had sorted the car the rest of the group took the magical express and we headed over to French Quarter. It had taken us about 3 hours from landing to this point

We dropped our bags in our room (building 3) and then went back to reception to wait for the others who arrived shortly after.

We took them across to their rooms (which were in building 1) and then brought them the cereal (I had been buying variety packs to bring with us) and other snacks we had in our bag as well as getting them some milk for the morning.

They were all tired so were heading to bed, Rob and I went and got a pizza to share from the food court. I’m pretty sure it cost us $15.99 and we used our refillable mugs to get drinks.
