Sightseeing in Seattle and Adventures in Alaska Day 9 - At Sea and Victoria

25 Sept

We had another late start today as we were at sea until the afternoon when we would make our brief stop in Victoria to fulfil the requirement to visit a port outside the USA.

We had breakfast in the Main Dining Room again with another fruit plate, more omelettes and some pastries.

We then watched a movie in our room (I googled on our return, it was called Death on the Nile and starred Gal Gadot, Dawn French and Jessica Saunders plus Russell Brand)….it was absolutely baffling but evidently only released in 2022!

Next we once again went to the gym in a vain effort to work off some of the food we have eaten!

After the gym we grabbed some pizza (see I said it was a vain attempt) and I got a soft serve ice cream from deck 14.

We must also have got a hotdog because we took this photo!

Now, I have a question about Sorrentos (the pizza place) and the appropriate place to queue.

I have taken this photo from the outside and would like opinions on where you should queue – I have added 2 arrows number 1 and 2. I will explain why after I see the views.

It was getting warmer today which was a big improvement on the previous day, where it was very chilly outside.

We arrived in Victoria at around 4pm which was slightly earlier than planned and the ship was cleared just before 5.

We joined a really long queue to leave the ship and then a few mins later we were walking into Canada for the first time!

You had to wear a mask to walk through the terminal (we had come prepared for this) but lots of our fellow passengers were complaining - it was literally 30 secs so completely pointless but hey they make the rules.

Out of the terminal we grabbed a map and started the walk to downtown (stated as 2km).

We followed the map to Fisherman’s Wharf where there were a few food and drink outlets, but we concluded we didn’t really need more food at this point.

We continued onto downtown and found a gift shop to secure our magnet, we also bought some chocolate.

We then walked around exploring a few shops and seeing a few of the sights.

This was a teeny tiny barber shop!

Being a Sunday and in the evening many shops were closed and there wasn’t enough time really to explore, this is the downside to cruising – sometimes you don’t get enough time to see the area.

We headed back towards the ship at around 7, as there were very few attractions open. I think we would consider returning to actually see Victoria.

We took our photo at the “welcome to Canada sign” as we left just because there were less people around.

We had earlier packed most of our things, so we finished packing our bags and put then outside the room for collection as we left for dinner.

I also got a random cold coffee drink as I had coffee credits to use up!

Final dinner at Coastal Kitchen; I had mushroom terrine and Rob had a pizette to start.

I then had the lamb shank and Rob had a sirloin steak (and a cheeky plate of chips) followed by chocolate sundae for our desserts. This was probably my least favourite dessert of the week  The lamb was amazing though!

We gave Iputu an extra tip as he had been so good all week – we are never sure what amount we should be giving but hopefully as it was in addition to the prepaid gratuity it would be enough.

We were late sailing away and assumed that people were late (as normal) but at about 10pm a fire truck/ambulance arrived and a few people left the ship (1 in a wheelchair) so I assume they had a medical issue which is a shame. We left shortly after they were taken into the ambulance.
