Now for something completely different... August with 5 first timers! Day 2

13th August

This morning the kids woke up slightly later at 0511! We stayed in bed until around 0600 I think and then started getting showered and ready. We all had breakfast in the room before driving over to the Animal Kingdom.

We started off with the safari ride using FP, nice and early to maximise the animals on the savannah. We saw loads which was great for the kids, we even saw the lions which hardly ever happens (for us!)

Before our next FP we took a walk through the gorilla trail and then started across towards Expedition Everest. This was the first big ride for the boys, Amy and Lucy decided not to ride so I was accompanied by a single rider as the boys all went together.

As we knew we were coming back later we decided to head back, although we got soft serve ice cream on our way. It was so hot that the ice cream was melting faster than the kids could eat theirs!

We got back to BLT and spent a couple of hours at the pool, around 1340 the pool was closed due to an approaching storm (although I don’t actually think we saw any rain).

We got ready for dinner and a return to the Animal Kingdom where we arrived at about 1530. We had a FP for Flights of Passage, the standby line had a wait of 210 minutes when we joined the line!

The plan was for everyone to ride but Amy dropped her glasses when getting onto her seat and then got upset so she and Lucy decided not to. Unfortunately Hayden got spooked partway through by a big whale and so I spent the second half of the ride trying to calm him down. From what I saw though it was an amazing ride and although I wouldn’t wait that long it was pretty impressive!

Although we didn’t have a lot of time we took Amy across to Dinoland so that she could ride Triceratop Spin as she had missed out on the ride before. We power walked out of the park and across to the Animal Kingdom Lodge for our dinner at Sanaa.

We all had the bread service and then the kids had burgers and pizza I think. Rob got 2 meat dishes (plus the paneer tikka) from the slow cooked options which cost $11 extra and I had the duck, Rob still doesn’t like the non-meat options and it seems a bit of a waste but you can’t just get 2 meat which seems odd.

As the dessert trio has now been removed we both had a chocolate cake for dessert.

Amy was brought a lovely birthday dessert which was nice.

Back to BLT and we watched the fireworks from the balcony again :)
