Now for something completely different... August with 5 first timers! Day 5

Light on photos today!

16th August

This morning we were awake at 0639 and were up and ready to leave the room just before 8. Today we were going to Epcot – we were going to take the monorail but didn’t want to risk getting there late and so we took the car.

We arrived before opening and were through security and allowed to wait on the other side of the turnstiles just before Spaceship Earth.

We had selected Soarin’ for our tier 1 FP for the day and so were headed straight to Test Track once we were allowed in. It was showing a 30 minute wait by the time we got over there but luckily it wasn’t that bad, I helped Hayden build a car whilst the others took Amy and Ellis separately so they each got to build their own. The other 6 then went in one car whilst I went on my own in the car in front, everyone really enjoyed this ride – I think Lucy decided at the end of the trip that it was her favourite.

Next up we were now headed to Soarin’ for our first FP, this was the first time Rob and I were seeing the new film and we were hoping for no Flight of Passage style disasters. Luckily everyone rode this and declared it to be good – although we were on the edge and I definitely noticed some of the distortions in a few scenes.

Living with the Land only had a 10 minute wait so we did that next and then continued over to Nemo for our 2nd FP. After we had looked at the fishes we decided to have a quick break in the DVC lounge so we got the kids some popcorn and went in for some drinks. We did also get some snacks while we were there and I think everyone enjoyed the short rest out of the heat.

To finish off our time in Future World we backtracked to use our final FP on Soaceship Earth and then after getting Lucy to try Beverly at Club Cool we started our tip around the world.

We started at Mexico and worked our way around (skipping Norway as we were seeing Anna and Elsa later in the trip) with the kids getting Duffy bears stamped on the way round. We did have to speed up a little towards the end as it looked like a storm was approaching, but our luck was holding as we got back to the car with no rain.

We got some supplies at Speedway – milk, bread etc and then popped back to the room to freshen up. We started eating the birthday cake from the previous day - it tasted pretty good!

We had a dinner reservation at Teppan Edo so headed back into the park, we shared our table with 2 more Brits who I think were from Jersey or Guernsey. The kids really liked the ‘show’ and amazingly ate most of their food which I was pleased about as I had been concerned about whether they would like this meal.

After the boys wanted to do another ride but we had limited options, we split up again sending Rob, Matt and Ellis to Mission Space (the tame version) and the rest of us did Spaceship Earth again.

We all met up for Illuminations in the fast pass viewing area – I had got this earlier in the day as our 4th choice.

I’m not entirely sure though but the show seemed much shorter than before – have they reduced the number of fireworks?! I’m sure that the globe used to open up but that didn’t happen either – have I missed something?
